Application Process and Receipt Date

Please send an e-mail simply stating your intent to apply with your name and contact information to Ms. Hannah Kim: hkim@thehillgroup.com to receive accompanying application information

DEADLINE TO SUBMIT APPLICATIONS:
11:59PM, EASTERN TIME, MAY 15TH, 2009

Applicants must submit the following electronically to Ms. Hannah Kim via e-mail by May 15th to complete your application. Please download the application form and save a copy to edit directly to the PDF document.

  • Concept Paper
    Two-page concept paper proposing a research project targeting medically underserved areas or population that carefully outlines the community with which you plan to work and your past association with the community partner. The statement should also address the significance of the project for health disparities, if applicable. Sections of the concept paper should include:
    • Specific Aims of the Study
    • Background and Significance of the Issue Addressed
    • Research Design and Methods
    • Data Analysis Plan
    • Implications and Limitations of the Research
  • Curriculum vitae for the PD/PI
  • Curriculum vitae for the Community Partner
  • Signed letter of support from the PI’s Dean or Department Chair
  • Signed letter of support from the Community Partner’s agency head
  • One-page Personal Statement describing your research and career interests and how this course will benefit you
  • One-page Personal Statement from the Community Partner describing (1) the community and what it hopes to gain from the research project, (2) a brief history of the relationship with the PI, and (3) an assessment of the collaboration to develop the Concept Paper.

DEADLINE TO SUBMIT APPLICATIONS ELECTRONICALLY: NO LATER THAN 11:59PM ON MAY 15, 2009. SUMMER INSTITUTE PROGRAM PLANNING COMMITTEE WILL SELECT AWARDEES AND NOTIFY THEM BY THE SECOND WEEK OF JUNE.

Number of Participants: 15 to 20 teams (One PI and one Community Partner) for a total of 30 to 40 participants.

Costs

No fee is charged for the Summer Institute Program. Room and board and materials will be covered by NIH. Travel expenses and the cost of meals not provided for you will be reimbursed at the conclusion of the Institute.
