This conference is an opportunity for TLDC to learn about and interact with grantees in their respective Areas. It is also an opportunity for ALL the SDPI grantees to showcase and interact with their TLDC representative as well as other invited guests including the IHS Director and other IHS Senior staff.
If at all possible it is very important to demonstrate collaborative efforts between the Community Directed grantee and the Demonstration Project grantee, and/or between Tribal and IHS programs, if applicable. No one knows yet how the SDPI funding situation will be for the FY 2010 and FY 2011 until Tribal Consultation takes place and the IHS Director makes his final decisions. We do know it is important to showcase accomplishments and, again, if at all possible, to highlight collaborative efforts between the two different grant programs or different types of programs (Tribal and IHS) working in the same community.
The theme of the conference is History, Harmony and Hope.
1. History is 12 years of SDPI Community Directed programs and almost 5 years of the SDPI Demonstration Projects - lessons learned, accomplishments, etc.
2. Harmony is the many different ways we have worked together within tribal communities, between communities, with IHS, etc to treat and prevent diabetes.
3. Hope is the future of ........SDPI, community health and wellbeing, diabetes & children ......any number of things.......where do we go from here.
